The Lord sits on His Throne

The Voice of the Lord in the Storm. A Psalm of David. Ascribe to the Lord, O sons of the mighty, Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due to His name; Worship the Lord in holy array. The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; The God of glory thunders, The Lord is over many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful, The voice of the Lord is majestic. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; Yes, the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, And Sirion like a young wild ox. The voice of the Lord hews out flames of fire. The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; The Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. The voice of the Lord makes the deer to calve And strips the forests bare; And in His temple everything says, “Glory!” The Lord sat as King at the flood; Yes, the Lord sits as King forever. The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace.

In Psalm 29 above us we, the sons of the Almighty, are told to ascribe to the Lord glory due to His name and to worship Him. This is our place as a people. We are worshippers who, amongst other things, are to proclaim the truths of God to this dying world. The Psalm displays the power of God over creation and ends with the reminder that “The Lord sat as King at the flood; Yes, the Lord sits as King forever. ” Even at the flood, the greatest global calamity that man faced outside of the fall itself, the Lord reined as King…as He does now. He sits on His throne as King over every country, every people group, every storm, every trial, and every virus. The Lord, God, is in every place and over everything. He is the Sovereign and All-powerful King. As we read in Psalm 139:1-2: “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.” It is a powerful truth that even in hell man cannot escape God’s presence.

Right now, people are afraid. It is easy to think they are afraid of Coronavirus but that is just a symptom of their true fear. Even if they are unaware of it, their true fear is not this virus itself but its most severe outcome – death. As humans, we are by nature people who will do anything to live and to preserve the life of those we love most. Right now that is being threatened and people are afraid.

As believers, we are by nature people who know the answers they seek and can bring hope in this darkness. Let us live in that way.

Brothers and sisters, I encourage you to hope in the Great God we serve. Do not let the fear of this current storm be your witness. The most severe outcome of this virus has only the power to free this body from its earthly prison. We must remember that death has been rendered powerless in Jesus as we read in 1 Corinthians 15:55 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” If you believe in Jesus, live as people who know that a greater tomorrow exists and change the narrative from fear to hope. Remember to focus on the true issue, not the symptom. Tell others that Jesus saves. Proclaim that our great King is on His throne and declares “Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; For I am God, and there is no other.” (Isaiah 45:22)

What a great time we are living in. “Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest.” (John 4:35). Pray to the Lord for ways to actively share the Gospel and for ways to help others in this great time of confusion and fear. It is our time, let’s get fishing.

And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19
